This week saw Dagenham’s 2nd contingent travel the short distance to face Ravens who currently play at the “Club who shall not be named” on Gale Street.
Ravens are one of the oldest clubs around being founded in 1875 (only 4 years after the RFU itself) so would have a lot of experience to bring to the game.
With extreme winds the game kicked off. Although the Ravens fronted up and matched us in the scrums, Dagenham’s pacey backs were too strong and dominant and so a flood of tries came in. Great running from Shadi, Hoggy and Hogwood in particular.
The 2nd half went much like the first, however to the Ravens credit they never gave up and even after some good defence from the men in Red and White, they scored their own forward-dominated try with the last play of the game.
Final score: Ravens 5, Dagenham 2nds 76
Afterwards it became apparent that Rugby legend Jason Leonard had been in attendance. Some might say he was there to watch the “Club who shall not be named” 1st team on the other pitch, but really we know he was there to watch the mighty Dagenham 2nds!
Thanks to Jonny, Shaun Riley and Chris Warner for putting on a Ravens shirt and playing for the other team:
