This Saturday saw Millwall 3rds travel to Central Park for their Merit 6 West clash.
As normal a few last minute cry offs meant a few 2nd team players were drafted into the 1st team, including new 2nd team skipper Gary Francis, meaning the reins fell to me!
Even with the players poached for 1st team we still managed to have 16 players but Sod’s law meant that Millwall would arrive with only 13!
Again, being the gentlemen we are, decided to play 13-a-side although it quickly became apparent we needn’t bothered!
Pretty much from the off Millwall shipped the ball to their young, pacey, well drilled backs who scored every time they had the ball. Dagenhams team of 13 forwards and 3 backs were no match for Millwalls team full of backs! Millwalls handling was on point with hardly any dropped balls or forward passes to capitalise on.
Dagenham held firm in the scrums and when finally able to get some possession did punch up the midfield a few times resulting in at least some points for the hosts! Jordan Middleton crossing the whitewash on his return from retirement with Jonny Smith converting.
Apart from that it was a long afternoon for the home team clearly in a mis-matched game!
Thanks to Millwall for coming up to us and buying us a jug afterwards. But next time please leave your young, talented backs at home!
On a more positive note, Kenny Fricker appears to have found some shorts that fit him!
