Old Brentwoods RFC 5 – Dagenham RUFC 55

Arriving with only the bare 13, due to injuries and unavailability, Dagenham’s youngest boys group were up for the battle and showed, right from the off, that they are ready for the challenge.

From the kick off, the Dagenham boys carried the ball well, with Ariadias, Harry, Riley and Henry leading the way. Dagenham’s first score came from one such power run as second row Riley scooped up a loose ball, broke through the first tackle and ran on to score.

Next up it was the turn of centre Ariadias who cut his way through several defenders to score another powerful try 0-10

Captain Harry was next, after some great work from new scrum half George, as he put on the after burners to score a lovely solo effort 0-15.

The Dagenham scrum worked very well as they won ball against the head, the front row of Bailey, Oscar and Hindolo were excellent all game, 2 phases of play saw Riley get his second of the match 0-20.

Next up was centre Ilyas who had a brilliant game, with the first of 2 quick fire tries. Again pace and power were the order of the day as valiant OB’s just couldn’t stem the Dagenham tide for a 0-30 half time score.

Special mention must also go to the two wingers, both making debuts, as Taylor and Hunter both came close to scoring.

OB’s started the second half very well and had a few chances to score through their own big runners and managed to get over the Dagenham line for their first score 5-30.

But this early pressure didn’t stop the boys in red and white as Ariadias got another great try through his powerful running for 5-35 before both he and Fly half and Captain Harry scored 2 more well worked tries for 5-45

While things sound one sided this was far from the case and OB’s attacked with great effort and pace but the Dagenham boys defended for all they were worth to make sure our hosts didn’t score again.

Next was without doubt the try of the match. Having been moved to full back, Ilyas had a huge kick punted his way from OB’s. He took the kick on the run and without breaking stride jinked around 2 defenders before breaking the tackle of a third before powering his way to an outstanding score ! 5-50

Scoring was rounded off with another good finish, this time from Alfie, who received a great pass from no8 Zohaib before stepping through tackles to seal a quite superb 5-55 win !

What a first game for the boys ! Next week we visit Chingford and are hoping for more of the same !
