D’s too strong for Woodford 4ths

This Saturday saw the men in red go out of their way to arrange a friendly to keep up momentum coming back after the Christmas break. The day started off with The men in red actually warming up (after the quick fag). The Men in red started strong with the opening try coming from Scott Ballard after an impressive break from the halfway & a last ditch lunge for the line saw the boys take a 5-0 lead. Conversion missed. The game followed suit & after with the excellent kicking of lumpy chased by captain Gary Francis the D’s continued 10-0. (Conversion made 12-0).
Woodford not discouraged striked back in quick succession with both conversion to take the lead at 12-14 but that’s all they would have to say score wise as the rest of the half saw tries run in from Matt Viera & Tommy Preston to leave the half way score at 31-14.
The second half was a white wash with BIG hits coming from Paul Grint, Shaun Riley & Peter Hogwood. However Jake Yellop did knock a guy out with his thigh. 2 furthers tries from Viera, 3 more from Preston,1 more from Francis, 1 from Hoggy, 1 from Westcott & 1 from Smith. We lost track of the conversion rate as the wingers, props & an ambitious 9 from Halfway all took the opportunity to have a go. A special mention must go to Jack Andrews who’s just returned after a broken arm & had the game of his life & at moments looked like a winger not a prop! Eventually the game was called by Woodfords captain after they battered the Dagenham 5 metre line for 8 minutes & walked away with nothing more than bruises. Final score 88-14.
The 2’s team has come along way from just about being able to get 15 men out each week to having a pool of players & subs! This is due to the incredible new coaching setup over at Dagenham now & the results are showing. Well done to Dagenham 1’s on their 88-0 victory away to Writtle.
A special thanks must go to Woodford for agreeing to the fixture & travelling down. But in all aspects bar the line out (which we won’t talk about) Dagenham were stronger & when it come to open play the D’s were a lot more constructive & played better ball in hand.
