Final league game of the season

D’s end the league season with a win at Billericay

Dagenham wrapped up thier league season with another win at Billericay on Saturday afternoon

With 3rd place wrapped up some time ago the lads could be excused for letting the foot off the gas, however with a cup final just around the corner that wasn’t to be the case.

The first half was punctuated by numerous penalties with a very strict refereeing approach and this meant very little meaningful Rugby was played however two scores firstly from Jermaine Darkwa then from Jordan Calverley (both converted by Frankie Neale who was immaculate with the boot all day) saw the visitors take a 14-0 lead

Billericay to their credit continued to push and scored two penalties from the number being awarded through the half. They would have added to that tally too but for some fabulous defence from Nathan Farrell

Halft time score 14-6

The slow start from Dagenham wasn’t repeated in the second half as from the opening kick off Jordan Calverley broke wide right and was in for a certain try before a high tackle saw the try awarded as a penalty try before the offending player saw yellow for the offence 21-6

Dagenham then stepped on the gas as further quick fire tries from Billy Driver, 2 for Nathan Farrell and Jermaine Darkwa completed his brace, all converted by Neale, saw them race into a 49-6 lead

And this is how the game ended

Head Coach Brian Wren had this to add after the game

I thought the game was a decent one, played in very good spirit between the two sides.

This season has been a very good one for us and will hopefully be topped off with some silverware in the cup final at the end of April

We are a little disappointed that we didn’t have our squad together as early as we’d have liked this year and that meant we were playing catch up in the hopes that Upminster or Mavericks would slip up

This wasn’t to be though and congratulations to Upminster on winning the league.

We’ve made a couple of additional signings already for next season which will only make us stronger and with the National Competitions next year we will look to continue our improvement’

Cup final weekend is 27th April it should be a cracker!

Team: S Jones, Warner, Rawlinson (Connor), Wren, Kitenge, Westcot (Viera), Darkwa, J Jones, J Cook, Neale, Darkwa, Pruce, Driver, Farrell, Calverley (P Cook)
